Organization and management structure

The State Nature Protection Establishment "The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is a large complex aimed at nature protection, economic activities and scientific research. The area is subject to the jurisdiction of the Property Management Department of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

The main objectives of the National Park are:

The daily management of the National Park is being financed through three main sources - a state budget, funds for the purpose of nature conservation and protection and scientific research and through economic activities. The National Park is a legal juridical unit and it has its own book-keeping accounts and currency bills in banks and runs an independent balance. There are official stamps, business forms and symbolic.

The territory of the National park includes state owned land as well as private land, rented land and other types of proprieties. The lands within the area of the National Park serve the goal of nature protection. As such it is forbidden to execute activities which contradict the purpose for which the National Park and its specific management zones have been designated.

The State National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is being managed by a General Director, three Deputy Directors (for on science and environmental education, tourist and trade services and ideology), a General Forest Warden, Chief Engineer, Chief Hunter and a Book-keeper Chief. Problems connected to protection, as well as guarding trees, forests and fauna are the main duties of [at present, 2019] 17 forestry areas, and the Forestry Department and Hunting Game Department. Research and monitoring are the main activities of the Scientific (Research) Department, while creating publicity and increasing the public awareness of the importance of nature conservation is the main task of the Nature Museum. There is a Library and a Center of Crafts and Culture. To meet the needs of the population living in the National Park territory and to gain financial means, the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park owns a plant for wood procession, a handicraft and art shop, a taxidermy shop and other business enterprises.

The Scientific-Technical Council of the National Park coordinates plans, programs and projects which are aimed at the substantiation of nature protection and economic activities. This Council is an advisory body serving the General Director. Scientists and leading experts of the National Park, the National Academy of Sciences, Universities, Ministries and other partner organizations make up for the members of this Council. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus realizes a methodical guidance of researches and nature protection activities in the National Park, while the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection supervises all works carried out in the National Park.

In all over 1,400 people [at present, 2019] are employees of the National Park.
